World’s First High-Speed Rail Advisor

Since the world’s first high-speed railway opened in Japan in 1964, Japan has been receiving requests for technical assistance from countries around the world. Japan Railway Technical Service (JARTS) has  responded to these requests since its establishment in 1965, with JIC later taking over its expertise. We propose the best high-speed railway systems for the countries and regions we serve, with our expertise in the construction and operation of high-speed railways, including civil engineering, track, rolling stock, electric power, signalling and telecommunications, and operation management systems.
JIC was engaged in a joint feasibility study between India and Japan on the Indian High-Speed Rail in 2013. Since India’s decision to adopt the Japanese Shinkansen method in 2015, we have been supporting tendering for the National High-Speed Rail Corporation of India Limited (NHSRCL), the Indian High-Speed Rail operator, since 2016. The support includes preparing design and tender documents for the Indian high-speed rail construction project.
Upon request from the Indian Side, we have also been working in human resource development for NHSRCL. In August 2022, we were also awarded a contract to supervise the construction of tracks, rolling stock depots, maintenance vehicles and operational training simulators. Through these services, the Indian High Speed Rail is the first project JIC has undertaken as the prime contractor throughout the project, including survey analysis, design and tender support, and construction supervision.
